A Detailed Blog Post on My Hair Care Routine: The Secret to Healthy, Gorgeous Hair

I've been receiving quite a few emails on my hair routine when my hair was damaged and brittle (due to stress, hormonal imbalances combined with excessive hair straightening) so here is a detailed post!

Taking care of your hair is not just about choosing the right shampoo or conditioner. For truly healthy, shiny, and strong hair, you need a holistic approach— one that involves nourishment, stimulation, and the use of the right ingredients.

In this post, I’m going to share my early personal hair care routine, which focuses on hair oiling, massaging, derma rolling, and using the herbal mask. It's a method I've been following for a while, and it's worked wonders for the overall health of my hair as I'm sure you have seen on the TikTok page.

The Basis of My Routine

Healthy hair doesn't happen overnight. It requires dedication, consistency, and a blend of natural treatments that promote growth, strengthen the strands, roots and improve scalp health (specifically pH).

I followed a three-day cycle, which involves a combination of techniques to nourish, stimulate, and detoxify my scalp and hair. This routine is based on a deep understanding of what my hair needs and has helped me achieve the voluminous, shiny hair I have today.

Day 1: Hair Oiling, Massage, and Derma Rolling

Step 1: Hair Oiling

The first step of my routine is hair oiling. I use a blend of oils infused in herbs that nourish and strengthen the hair from the roots to the tips. I prefer the herbal oil which is on the website which is infused with herbs carefully curated in Sandalwood and Castor oil.

I apply it on the roots, you don't need much as the oil is quite thick and coats the scalp with a small amount. I wrap my hair in cling film and leave overnight to let the oil deeply nourish my scalp.

Step 2: Scalp Massage

The next step is a gentle scalp massage. Scalp massages are essential for promoting blood circulation, which helps stimulate hair follicles and encourages hair growth. I use the massaging tool to gently massage my scalp in circular motions, focusing on the roots. This is not only great for hair growth, but it also helps to relax and relieve stress.

The massage should be done for at least 5-10 minutes. Ideally 30 mins. I like to use this time as a moment to relax and unwind, while the oils work their magic.

Step 3: Derma Rolling

The final step on Day 1 is derma rolling. My favourite. A derma roller is a device with tiny needles that helps with hair growth by stimulating the scalp and increasing blood circulation. The process of micro needling on the scalp encourages the production of collagen and the absorption of any oils or serums that are applied afterward.

I gently roll the derma roller across my scalp, focusing on areas where I want to boost growth. The process should be gentle to avoid any discomfort or injury. I make sure to clean the derma roller thoroughly before and after use to maintain hygiene. Use rubbing alcohol.

Once the derma rolling is done, I leave the oil in my hair for the next three days. During this time, the oil has the chance to deeply nourish the hair and scalp, and the massage and derma rolling help with hair regeneration.

Day 2-3: Leave the Oil In

During the next two days, I keep the oil in my hair. This extended leave-in time helps the oils to deeply penetrate the hair follicles, promoting healthy hair growth and providing essential nutrients to the scalp.

I often use these days as a way to give my hair a break from washing, allowing the natural oils to do their work. My scalp feels nourished, and I can feel the difference in texture and health after this extended oil treatment.

This step is vital because it ensures that the nutrients from the oils have enough time to nourish and repair the hair shaft and scalp. The oil also acts as a protective barrier, shielding the hair from environmental damage during the leave-in period.

Day 4: Shampoo and Herbal Hair Mask

Step 1: Shampoo Out the Oil

After leaving the oil in for three days, it’s time to wash my hair. You can use a gentle sulfate-free shampoo to avoid stripping your hair of its natural oils. The shampoo helps to remove any excess oil while keeping the moisture locked into the hair. I focus on massaging the shampoo into my scalp to remove any dirt or buildup that might have accumulated over the past few days.

Once I’ve thoroughly massaged the shampoo in, I rinse it out with lukewarm water, making sure the oil is completely removed. I always ensure that the water temperature isn't too hot, as this can strip the hair of its natural moisture and lead to dryness.

Step 2: Herbal Hair Mask

Once the shampoo is out, I follow up with a herbal hair mask. My herbal mask consists of a blend of 40 natural ingredients like Ginseng, Date Seed, Henna, Amla, and other plant-based extracts known for their nourishing properties. These ingredients help restore moisture, balance pH on scalp, thickens strands and prevent hair breakage.

To use the mask, I apply it generously to damp hair, focusing on the scalp, lengths and tips. The mask is then left on for about 2 hours. I prefer to leave the mask on longer to get the maximum benefit, but even 2 hours can work wonders.

Step 3: Rinse and Detangle

After the mask has been left in for the recommended time, I rinse it out thoroughly with lukewarm water. This helps the hair absorb the nourishment without leaving any product residue behind. After rinsing, I gently detangle my hair using a wide-tooth comb. Ensure you follow up with a deeply hydrating conditioner as it is an incredibly strengthening treatment.

Why This Routine Works

  1. Hair Oiling: Hair oiling provides deep nourishment to the scalp and hair, prevents dryness, and boosts hair growth.
  2. Scalp Massage: Stimulates blood circulation, which in turn helps the hair follicles to function better, promoting healthier and stronger hair.
  3. Derma Rolling: Microneedling enhances blood flow to the scalp, which helps in the absorption of oils and serums and supports collagen production to improve hair texture.
  4. Herbal Mask: The herbal ingredients in the mask provide essential vitamins and minerals that help strengthen hair, prevent hair loss, and add shine.

Conclusion

This three-day hair care routine—starting with oiling, massaging, and derma rolling, followed by a period of leave-in oil treatment, and finishing with shampoo and a nourishing herbal mask—has worked wonders for my hair. It's a bit of a commitment, but the results speak for themselves. Not only does my hair look shinier, but it also feels stronger, thicker, and healthier.

If you're looking for a natural and holistic hair care routine, I highly recommend giving this a try. Consistency is key, and in just a few weeks, you should start to notice significant improvements in the health and appearance of your hair.
